Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School launches November 5 on PS5, Xbox, and PC, arriving day one on Xbox Game Pass. The sequel transforms the puzzle series into an open-world campus with full co-op support.

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School will launch on November 5, 2026. It arrives day one on Xbox Game Pass for console and PC. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
World Design
The sequel expands the original's linear narrative into a fully explorable open-world campus. This new structure spreads quests and puzzles across several distinct campus sections. Players will not have immediate access to all areas. The open-world setup uses progression gates instead of making every section available from the beginning. The Humanities Campus, for instance, is not treated as a clean reset. Escape Academy 2 changes the shape of the first game without abandoning its puzzle-driven foundation.
Key Locations
The Headmaster's Tower and Humanities Campus are highlighted as expanded, story-rich areas. The Headmaster's Tower was one of the first spaces designed for the sequel's updated visuals. It inspired discussions on making a space feel truly 'Academic'. This tower housed the very first escape room in the original game.
The Humanities Campus was rebuilt after the library was burned down by Quanty in the first game's story. Bringing it into the sequel gives the expanded school a connective thread. Its design saw the most deviation from the original's 2D map layout. Early designs felt too open, leading developers to add interactable landmarks, side quests, and escapes. The art director expanded on classical architecture inspiration from the original game's library.
The campus has a cozier feel compared to the rough industrial Science Campus and the colorful Arts Campus. It is intended to encourage quiet coffee breaks or philosophical puzzle discussions. A keyhole-shaped fountain is visible from key sightseeing spots. This fountain is part of designing the campus as a living, breathing puzzle. Keyhole embellishments are hidden throughout the Academy for players to find.
Gameplay and Features
Escape Academy 2 features an all-new campaign with handcrafted escape rooms built by veteran puzzle designers. It includes couch or online co-op play available from the start. Co-op covers the full campus, story, and all puzzles. The art director stated, "One of my favorite parts of building the game has been making the world itself part of the experience."
Puzzles are not limited to rooms and the campus rewards curiosity. The game includes an optional No-Timer Mode and supports Xbox Play Anywhere. The story involves a dark mystery surrounding the school's founding. It features an expanded curriculum with character-driven storylines and puzzle-stuffed side quests. Visuals have been rebuilt with new environments, details, and outfits for professors and pupils.
The PC version has the following system requirements:
