Dave the Diver and Subnautica 2 Announce Free Crossover DLC

Mintrocket has announced a free crossover DLC for Dave the Diver with Subnautica 2. The Subnautica 2 Content Pack will launch in early 2027, sending the game's protagonists on an interdimensional journey.

Dave and his partner Bancho will travel through a portal to Proteus, the ocean moon from Subnautica 2. This interdimensional trip blends the two game universes, aiming to uncover new sea creatures and sushi recipes in strange, unfamiliar waters.

What players will experience in the DLC

Exploration on Proteus will involve discovering new creatures and valuable resources. Players will also have periodic run-ins with Subnautica 2's massive Leviathan creature. The expansion introduces new friends for Dave and Bancho to assist. Completing these underwater adventures will unlock strange and exotic new recipes for the sushi restaurant.

Context behind the collaboration and game histories

This DLC is described as the final expansion for Dave the Diver. Mintrocket studio director Jaeho Hwang stated the team wanted this last addition to feel especially meaningful. He added that a Subnautica collaboration is what players have been asking about for a long time. While both games are set underwater, Subnautica’s distinct approach to exploration gave Mintrocket a chance to bring something new to the experience.

Subnautica 2 creative director Anthony Gallegos called the expansion a love letter to both Dave the Diver and the Subnautica universe. The Subnautica 2 Content Pack follows In the Jungle, Dave the Diver's largest story expansion which launched in June. It is developed by Mintrocket in cooperation with Unknown Worlds Entertainment.

Release details and availability

The free DLC is set for release in early 2027. It was revealed at the Triple-i Initiative show and is available to wishlist on Steam now. The content pack will be supported across a wide range of platforms.

Broader franchise and studio developments

This crossover follows a period of significant success for both titles. Dave the Diver has surpassed 10 million sales. It has previously featured crossover DLC with Godzilla, Dredge, and Yakuza's Ichiban's Holiday Content Pack. Mintrocket, a subsidiary of Nexon, disclosed earlier this year that it is using generative AI for localization.

Subnautica 2 launched in early access this year on May 14 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. It sold more than 5 million copies in under a month, leading publisher Krafton to label it a franchise IP. This success followed a legal battle between Krafton and Unknown Worlds studio founders, which was settled before the game's launch. The DLC is available to wishlist on Steam now.
