Young Suns has launched its 1.0 version and left Xbox Game Preview. The 1-to-4 player cozy narrative life sim, set on Jupiter after a revolution, is now officially available with a major content update.

According to a post from developer KO_OP, the 1.0 launch is the culmination of community feedback gathered during the Game Preview period. The team stated they were really eager to use their time in Game Preview developing Young Suns with the community.

1.0 Update Highlights

The version 1.0 update introduces a substantial amount of new content and features. Players can explore twelve new moonlets, collect resources, and craft dozens of new items. New decoration sets allow for customizing your ship.

Three new types of quests are added, focused on meeting the revolutionaries of the Jovian System. A new scanning tool called the Jovipedia lets players learn about the local ecosystem and history. The update also introduces a dynamic cast of characters with reactive dialogue.

A key new system involves eight distinct factions. Players can align with any faction, earning reputation and unlocking exclusive rewards. The developer notes that due to the scale of changes, Game Preview save data will not be compatible with the 1.0 version.

Community-Driven Development

KO_OP highlighted specific community suggestions that shaped the game. One early request was for a way to clean out inventory, which led to the creation of donation boxes on stations. These boxes let players earn gratitude and free up backpack space.

Another implemented suggestion was for more masculine hairstyles in the character creator. The developers stated they have always strived to have their character be as inclusive as possible and expanded the options based on player feedback.

Expanded World and Customization

The narrative and quest systems, which were incomplete during Game Preview, are now fully implemented in 1.0. Players will explore derelict ruins, converted stations, and moonlets filled with flora, fauna, and mineral deposits while engaging with the factions' stories.

Character customization has been significantly expanded. Players start on Wednesday station in a somaforming chamber to design their character. Options now include choices for aging, decorative face paint, and spacesuits.

The team worked to incorporate many different body types and styles. These include arm and leg prostheses, a wide variety of skin tones and hair textures, and a system for creating a range of body sizes. More options are reportedly in development.

Cosmetics, which were all unlocked during Game Preview, are now integrated into the game's progression. Items like a t-shirt for the in-game mascot Gorbit can be unlocked through exploration, faction trading, and quest completion. KO_OP says this creates a more satisfying and cohesive experience.

The developer expressed pride in the collaborative project, which was inspired by their own hopes for the future and real-world movements. They described Young Suns as a game about solidarity and reciprocity focusing on the work that comes after liberation.
