Cut RE4 and Requiem Voice Lines Reveal Unused Story Details

Modder Keff0 has posted videos detailing over 600 cut voice lines from the Resident Evil 4 remake and nearly 400 from Resident Evil Requiem. The findings include a direct reference to Resident Evil Village and unused animations suggesting the Merchant was once killable.
Unused Merchant Lines and Village Link
The most notable cut line comes from the Merchant in the RE4 remake. In it, he says, "Ah, I see you're no stranger to villages. The Duke? Lad shows promise." This directly references The Duke, the merchant character from Resident Evil Village. The Duke had previously paid homage to the RE4 Merchant with his own line, "What're ya buyin'?"
Both characters share traits of seeming omnipresent and omniscient. However, Keff0 also found unused death animations for the Merchant, indicating developers once planned for players to be able to kill him.
Tragic Depth for Requiem's Infected
The cut Requiem lines provide extensive new context for its infected characters. The game's unique T-virus strain already allowed zombies to retain memories and repeat familiar actions. The unused audio reveals even more tragic scenarios.
Burning zombies would beg for water and scream about the pain. The large enemy known as Chunk would plead that he did not want to die and cry about being stressed. Some infected would even thank the player for ending their suffering.
Leon's Character Moments
Leon Kennedy's cut lines in Requiem include numerous spider-themed quips and his usual combat sounds. A more significant line occurs late in the game as he suffers from infection and exhaustion: "I promise I'll make it home."
This somber line contrasts with his mission-driven persona. It suggests an intention to survive and move past the trauma of Raccoon City, a nuance not fully present in the released game. The source report from PC Gamer notes that not all lines could be included due to storage constraints.
All information was uncovered by modder Keff0 and reported by PC Gamer. The videos shows what was left on the cutting room floor, offering fans a deeper look into the games' development.
