Gamescom 2026 was the scene of multiple laptop thefts targeting developers this week. Solo developer Laley was among those affected, losing a new laptop and the use of his paid booth space for the event which runs through Sunday.

The thefts have caused significant financial strain. Laley stated the cost of the smallest booth in Gamescom's business area is nearly €3,000, roughly $3,500, based on the event's price calculator. That figure does not include travel, hotel, and food expenses for the week.

In an emotional social media video, Laley said, "As an indie, solo dev, this shit's expensive and hard to do all by yourself. And to have this happen is beyond frustrating."

On Game Writing and Numbers

In a separate piece, Steven Santana argues that writing itself is the reward in games. He contrasts text with in-game statistics, describing numbers as "hard, precise, stoic monoliths." Text, he contends, is fluid, provocative, and capable of being potent, elegant, blunt, sensual, or humorous.

Analyzing GTA 6 and Disco Elysium

A GamesRadar article by Jeremy Peel offers analysis of Grand Theft Auto VI's central relationship dynamics following a recent showcase. The piece suggests Rockstar understands important couple conversations happen in liminal spaces like car rides or elevators. These moments are described as for "team tactics" where issues are raised and a shared approach is agreed.

Elsewhere, Steven Stoermer revisited the soundtrack for Disco Elysium. He notes the track "The Instrument" plays when the protagonist, Harry, is at his lowest point, paralleling Revachol's surrender to a centrist invader. The in-game version is longer and more ambient than the official soundtrack release.

Stoermer describes the cue as "personally stupefying," saying it halted his progress during multiple playthrough attempts by overwhelming him with emotion.

A Look Back at Red Alert 3

The source also references an older oral history by Duncan Fyfe for Vice about Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. It focuses on a performance by the late actor Tim Curry. The article highlights Curry's delivery of the line "SPACE!" with a snarl and delirious glee directed at the camera.

The weekly roundup concludes with a note on new music from the band Clutch, described as "thick, chunky rock 'n' roll."
