Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Adds Optional Auto-Leveling
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will include an optional auto-leveling system to let players skip grinding, director Naoki Hamaguchi told IGN Japan.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will introduce an optional auto-leveling system. Director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed the feature in an interview with IGN Japan, translated by X user Genki, stating it was developed in direct response to player feedback about the previous game's lengthy playtime.
The new system will prompt players before story missions, allowing them to automatically raise their party's level to the recommended requirement. This is designed to let players experience the main narrative of the trilogy's conclusion without engaging in open-world side activities or traditional grinding. Hamaguchi said the goal is to make Revelation feel closer to the more linear experience of the first game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
A Response to Rebirth's Scale
The feature is a direct answer to widespread criticism that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's open world felt bloated. While Rebirth solved the challenge of stretching the original game's content by introducing a massive world full of activities, some players found the scope daunting. The auto-level system in Revelation is entirely optional, preserving the expansive experience for players who wish to engage with every side quest and exploration opportunity.
Hamaguchi indicated that Revelation may be even larger than Rebirth, featuring a combination of returning and new environments. The auto-leveling option serves as an accessibility feature, catering to different play styles within the same game.
Release Details and Physical Media Catch
Square Enix has confirmed Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, across all platforms. The game will receive a physical release, but with a significant caveat. Unlike Remake and Rebirth, which shipped on multiple discs allowing for full offline play, Revelation will ship on a single disc containing only partial data, requiring a download to complete installation.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated the full game size will be approximately 200 GB. Current-generation console discs, like those for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, have a maximum capacity of about 100 GB. This technical limitation made a multi-disc solution impractical for housing the entire game. The inclusion of any disc is noted as being better than the digital-only releases common for many other major titles.
Looking Ahead
While the download requirement may disappoint collectors of physical media, there is speculation about a future complete trilogy collection. Such a release could potentially include all three games on discs, though no official announcement has been made. For now, the focus is on the auto-leveling system as a key quality-of-life improvement for the final chapter's launch in 2027.
