RuneScape 2027 Roadmap Reveals Animated Adaptation
Jagex announced a new RuneScape animated adaptation and a sweeping 2027 content roadmap for RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.
Jagex has unveiled a new RuneScape animated adaptation and a massive 2027 content roadmap for its flagship titles. The studio confirmed a fourth RuneScape MMO, with the working title RuneScape 4, is in development alongside a partnership with YouTuber Charlie White, also known as MoistCr1TiKaL, and production company Lyrical Media for the animated series.
Jagex described the 2027 plans as "the biggest roadmap in the game’s history." For the main RuneScape game, this includes an Agility skill rework, new skilling and solo bosses, area expansions, and a new Grandmaster Quest. Old School RuneScape's 2027 lineup features the continuation of the Fairytale questline, Quest Month, Dungeons of Gielinor, a Mining and Smithing rework, Chosen Commander, and the Tower of Xorphoros. RuneScape: Dragonwilds also announced updated plans, including the Blood Crystal Saga.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Updates
The Luminance update launches in December 2026 as a prelude to the Blood Crystal Saga. It introduces Elves, elven-themed customization, and the Prayer skill. The Blood Crystal Saga itself kicks off in early 2027 with the Song of Rebellion. It will feature enemies like Moss Giants and Implings, the Hunter Skill, new areas, quests, and gear.
Official modding support arrives in 2027 via a partnership with CurseForge. The partnership includes dedicated creation tools and an in-game mod browser and installer, available across all platforms including console. The studio plans quarterly updates introducing new Skills like Hunter and Slayer, plus monthly updates with side quests and quality of life improvements.
Old School RuneScape 2027 Content
A major highlight for Old School RuneScape is the opening of Menaphos. The Golden Gates to the city are opening after 20 years. Its content includes the Master-level quest Fool’s Gold and the first Skilling Dungeon. The Soul Altar is hidden deep within Jalanam, the Pharoah’s Pyramid.
Before 2027, the Fractured Archive, a new end game raid, launches on October 20, 2026.
2027 Story Arcs and Live Events
The year's narrative will unfold across three major story arcs. Hoard of Dragons launches in January 2027 as a sequel to the Dragon Slayer quest. City of Gnomes continues the gnome storyline first started in 2002. Secrets of Karamja introduces a new end game raid.
Separately, a new high-stakes game mode called Hardcore Worlds arrives on November 4, 2026. It offers a fresh economy and faction-based competition.
RuneScape Reignited and Community Access
RuneScape Reignited launches on December 2, 2026. Jagex called it a "defining moment for the 25-year-old game," designed to rekindle interest among lapsed players and excite existing ones. It includes a Remastered Journey and Adventure Guide, a fresh economy, and brand-new high scores.
From December 2 to December 12, 2026, all players can access the full Reignited experience without a membership. The Plugin API is launching in October 2026, with early hands-on access available ahead of the official release. The Blood Crystal Saga kicks off in 2027 for RuneScape: Dragonwilds, starting with the Song of Rebellion in early 2027.
