Resident Evil 4 Remake Cut Content Leak
A modder has uncovered over 600 unused voice lines in Resident Evil 4 Remake, including a direct reference to Resident Evil Village's Duke.

Over 30 minutes of unused voice lines from Resident Evil 4 Remake have been leaked online. The leak includes 671 fully recorded lines found on the game's PlayStation 5 launch disc.
The discovery was made by a community modder known as Keff0. The audio and subtitle files feature dialogue from main characters Leon, Luis, Ashley, and the Merchant. These lines are not present in the PC version of the game.
Village Connection Found
One of the Merchant's cut lines directly references a character from a later game. "Ah, I see you're no stranger to villages. The Duke? Lad shows promise," the Merchant says. This connects to Resident Evil Village, which features a merchant called The Duke. In Village, The Duke himself references the Resident Evil 4 merchant with the line, "'What're ya buyin'?' Haha, just something an old friend of mine used to say."
Capcom chose not to include this line in the final release. Its inclusion would have retroactively added continuity between the games.
Cut Merchant Gameplay
Keff0's findings extended beyond voice lines. The modder also uncovered unused animations for the Merchant's death. This suggests players were originally intended to be able to kill him. Data shows his shop would close permanently for the rest of the game if he died.
This mechanic would have mirrored the original 2005 game more closely. The development team apparently decided it was too counterintuitive for the modern remake.
Scope of the Leak
The leak highlights the volume of content typically cut during game development. Recent Resident Evil titles, like many AAA games, contain unused assets that never reach players. Earlier this year, Leon's voice actor mentioned a favorite line was cut from another project.
Modder Keff0 has a history with Resident Evil 4 Remake. They previously restored and made playable a cut segment known as Chapter 0. The latest data was extracted directly from the PS5 disc.
IGN's report concludes by noting future Resident Evil projects are in development. These include a remake of Code Veronica scheduled for 2027 and a new live-action film.
