Nintendo Announces Zelda And General Directs For September
Nintendo has scheduled two Direct presentations for next week: a 30-minute Zelda 40th Anniversary showcase on September 8 and a 45-minute general Nintendo

Nintendo has confirmed two Direct presentations for next week. A Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will air on September 8, followed by a general Nintendo Direct on September 9.
Both streams begin at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET on their respective days. The Zelda-focused presentation is scheduled to run for 30 minutes. The broader Nintendo Direct will last for 45 minutes.
Presentation Details
Following the general Nintendo Direct, a Nintendo Treehouse livestream will provide a deeper look at the showed games. That follow-up stream is planned to run for approximately 110 minutes. Nintendo has not revealed specific content for either presentation.
Rumors of an imminent Direct circulated earlier this week. They were sparked by Ubisoft announcing a new look at Just Dance: Decades of Hits for September 10. Speculation arose because Just Dance titles frequently appear in Nintendo broadcasts. Nintendo has hosted a September Direct nearly every year for the past decade, with 2024 being a noted exception.
Speculation On Content
Last year's September Direct featured several first-party games, smaller third-party titles, and the surprise reveal of a new Virtual Boy headset for Switch consoles. According to Gamespot, this suggests the 2026 event could follow a similar pattern. The site notes that 2026 has seen a slower release pace compared to the post-Switch 2 launch period of 2025.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave launches later this month. A new trailer for that turn-based tactics game is considered a likely inclusion in the broadcast.
Zelda Anniversary Focus
The dedicated Zelda presentation marks a significant acknowledgment of the franchise's 40th anniversary. Nintendo has been relatively quiet about the milestone so far this year. The event is seen as a prime opportunity to shows upcoming projects.
A remake of Ocarina of Time was announced several months ago. There is also an upcoming live-action Zelda movie. A teaser trailer for either project would not be unwelcome. Some fans hope for confirmation that The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD will finally be ported to Switch consoles.
The back-to-back broadcasts promise a substantial look at Nintendo's upcoming slate. Viewers will get their first answers on September 8.
