GTA 6 reveal sets 2026 streaming record
The gameplay reveal for Grand Theft Auto 6 set a 2026 livestreaming record with nearly 4 million peak viewers, causing technical issues on major platforms.

The first gameplay reveal for Grand Theft Auto 6 drew a peak of 3.97 million concurrent viewers across livestreaming platforms. This makes it the biggest gaming stream of 2026 so far, according to data from Streams Charts.
Rockstar Games' presentation was covered by 9,038 streamers, who collectively generated over 5.2 million hours watched. The event surpassed the viewership of other major 2026 broadcasts, including Summer Game Fest, a Nintendo Direct, and a PlayStation State of Play.
Platform Breakdown and Technical Issues
Twitch carried the largest share of the audience, accounting for 44 percent of total hours watched. YouTube followed with 34.8 percent, and Kick with 20.2 percent.
The reveal aired at 8pm UK time. Heavy demand caused significant technical issues on both Netflix and Twitch. Some viewers were reportedly locked out for 40 to 50 minutes.
Despite the outages, Streams Charts tracked more than 100,000 chat messages about the game during the three-hour window it analysed. Between 65 and 72 percent of tracked messages were neutral. Positive sentiment accounted for 11 to 15 percent of messages.
Negative messages made up 17 to 20 percent of the total. Much of this criticism was directed at the platform outages rather than the game itself. Approximately one-fifth of all messages compared the reveal to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, often with a negative tone.
Internet Traffic Surge
Cloudflare reported significant ripple effects across the internet. Netflix's global traffic rose 16 percent compared to previous weeks during the Extended Look. The spike was sharper in the UK, at 45 percent.
Twitch saw an average 12 percent traffic increase over the three hours following the premiere, peaking at 35 percent. YouTube traffic jumped 39 percent when the trailer went live on that platform at 1am.
The biggest swing was for Rockstar's own website. Global traffic to the site climbed 172 percent. In the UK, the increase was a massive 1210 percent.
Streamer Leaders and Broader Context
Spanish streamer Juan Alberto "IlloJuan" GarcĂa led viewership with 233,520 peak concurrent viewers, a new record for his channel. He was followed by Rubius with 191,056 and IShowSpeed with 177,887.
The record-breaking hype comes after a week of leaked GTA 6 videos. It also has a bitter edge, as dozens of employees recently fired by Rockstar North continue to battle the company in employment tribunals over alleged union-busting.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This week's reveal included details on a changed Wanted system, a revised carjacking system, a new romance system, a huge game world, and a list of in-game activities.
Eurogamer's Chris Donlan observed that the presentation showed what a billion dollars gets you. Colleague Chris Tapsell argued that the game's push towards realism and away from easy-going fun is a huge risk for the series, even if it is ultimately the right direction.
