Glowmade announces Rogue Fortune after Amazon cancels King
UK studio Glowmade is financially secure and developing a new single-player roguelike, Rogue Fortune, for a 2027 release after Amazon shut down its live

UK developer Glowmade is in a strong financial position and has announced a new game following the shutdown of its Amazon-published title. Studio head Jonny Hopper told GamesIndustry.biz the split with Amazon was "very amicable" and that the company owns its IP and has money in the bank.
Hopper says the studio was careful with Amazon's funding. This has left Glowmade with financial independence. "We've got a great team. We've got money in the bank." Hopper said. The company is now behaving more like a startup, focusing on urgency despite its secure position.
New project: Rogue Fortune
Glowmade's new project is a single-player game called Rogue Fortune. It combines roguelike action with a Tetris-inspired inventory puzzle system. Players pick up Tetris-shaped relics and slot them into a board, with different combinations granting various powers.
"The exciting bit is when players play this and they go, oh man, I've broken the game because I've suddenly got massively overpowered," Hopper said. The game is designed as a deliberate palate cleanser with a constrained scope, targeting a 2027 release. Development began in January 2026 with a prototype team that initially included no artists to focus purely on mechanics.
Learning from King of Meat
Amazon informed Glowmade in early 2026 that the online multiplayer game King of Meat would be shut down. The game had launched in October 2025 after a delayed release. Hopper admits the period was "a bit bumpy" but says the team rapidly shifted focus.
The experience provided important lessons. The team now knows what it is good at and what to avoid. Hopper emphasized that shipping a game was a huge achievement that built confidence. The studio's plan is to maintain independence by working on roughly two games at once, aiming for a new title every year.
Studio philosophy and future
Glowmade's leadership has defined its creative ethos around making "cool, beautiful and interesting" games. The studio uses its own proprietary technology, which Hopper says creates useful limitations that prevent overly ambitious scope creep.
Hopper is open to working on external IP or co-development projects, provided they align with the studio's creative boxes. However, the company currently has the luxury of choice and does not need to pursue such work immediately. The immediate focus is on Rogue Fortune and building a sustainable pipeline of original games.
