Final Fantasy VII Revelation, scheduled for a Spring 2027 release, has a pending rating on the Xbox store that is likely Mature 17+. The game's rating is currently listed as "Rating pending, likely Mature 17+."

Xbox Rating Status The

Xbox page for the game lists the rating as pending, with a likely Mature 17+ designation. This placeholder comes from the ESRB’s rating system, which assigns Mature to titles that may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, and strong language. The rating is not yet final; it remains a prediction until the ESRB completes its review.

ESRB Explanation

ESRB officials have not released a detailed rationale for the Mature prediction. One possibility is that the board is exercising caution after the recent Mature rating of Final Fantasy XVI, which was noted for its sexual themes, language, and overall violence. Another theory is that Revelation could contain more mature content than the first two games in the trilogy, which were rated T for Teen.

Fan Reactions

Fans have reacted strongly to the Mature label. One user on X wrote, "Mature 17+?! Spicy Highwind scene confirmed???

Hello?!" The tweet referenced a potential heated scene between Cloud and Tifa that could mirror the adult content seen in Final Fantasy XVI. Another commenter, @MoreLimitless, said, "FFVII Revelation may go M rated? This would make it the second mainline game to do so, and I welcome it.

I want Final Fantasy to embrace that mature rating to explore their heavy, more darker themes with a grace and gravitas that gets muddied by having to compromise."

Upcoming Reveals

The most recent gameplay footage came from Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase. Viewers saw submarine combat, traversal on the Highwind, and an explanation of the new FITS system. None of these clips indicated content that would justify a Mature rating, but the speculation continues.
