Final Fantasy 7 Revelation File Size Could Hit 200GB
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's director says the game's file size may be around 200GB, preventing a full disc release. The game launches on April 8, 2027.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation may require approximately 200GB of storage space, according to its director. This massive size means the game cannot be fully contained on a standard disc set.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the file size in a September 18 interview with VGC. He stated that the final details are still being finalized but confirmed the game's substantial storage demands. "In a word, yes. Things are still getting worked out, but it's probably going to be around 200GB of game," Hamaguchi said.
Storage Demands Challenge Hardware
A 200GB file size presents a significant challenge for console storage. The standard PlayStation 5, for example, offers about 667GB of usable space. Many modern games already occupy over 100GB, forcing players to manage their installed libraries carefully. This new entry could necessitate deleting several other titles to make room.
Hamaguchi acknowledged the team is pushing hardware limits. I understand there are a lot of opinions about this topic, but at the end of the day, the fact is we need to overcome the hardware to a certain extent, he explained.
Commitment to a Physical Release
Despite the digital file's size preventing a complete disc-based version, Square Enix remains committed to a physical product. Hamaguchi emphasized this point, noting the uncertain future of physical media.
One thing I want to say is, even though the game will not be on the full disc, in the position we're in, because discs may be dying out, or maybe staying, with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, we definitely wanted to deliver some kind of physical product, Hamaguchi continued. "That was really important to us."
The exact form of this physical release has not been detailed.
Game Details and Scale
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027. It will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The main story is expected to take about 100 hours to complete.
Post-launch expansions featuring characters Vincent and Sephiroth are also planned. These expansions may be similar in size to the Intermission DLC released for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, further adding to the game's overall footprint. The sheer scale shows the project's ambition and the ongoing trend of ballooning game file sizes.
