Fangtopia, a cozy puzzle game, will launch on PlayStation 5 on October 26. The release date, announced on the PlayStation Blog, positions the game for the Halloween season.

Players build a world for merry monsters and goofy ghouls by placing tiles onto a hex grid surrounding a chosen creepy castle. There are no time limits, allowing for careful consideration of each placement. However, a tile limit exists, requiring strategic play to top leaderboards and perfect the domain.

Tile Types and Gameplay

Tiles come in six types: fields, towns, mountains, forests, railroads, and rivers. Rivers are exclusive to the Ghoulish mode. Players often see two terrain types on a single tile. Connecting tile edges to matching terrain types scores points and advances in-game objectives. The game allows players to watch their world form, with sprawling forests bordering towns and railways winding across fields. Every move can be undone, letting players ponder the perfect spot for each tile.

As players gain points, they are offered landmarks to place in their world. This collection expands with more play. Placing these special monuments is key to expanding the world, as each has a special objective. Completing an objective awards new tiles for the player's deck. For example, placing a volatile volcano near a field and surrounded by mountains increases the tile stack.

Landmarks and Creatures

Landmarks range from otherworldly oaks and whirling windmills to frightful fountains and creepy carousels. Players can track all discovered landmarks in a Stickerbook, which lets them inspect the playful details of each building.

Placing tiles causes mysterious portals to appear in the surrounding oceans. Opening these portals summons a coterie of creatures, including grotty gremlins, wily werewolves, and bawling banshees. Each creature has a natural habitat. Finding them a home rewards the player with bonus tiles to expand the world. The PlayStation Blog suggests interacting with placed creatures might reveal a spooky surprise.

Game Modes

The game offers multiple ways to play based on player preference. The developers outline two primary modes in their announcement.

The blog post states that more game modes may be added in the future. The developers expressed excitement for the release, noting the game's journey from an idea to a full creation. They position it as a perfect game for the spooky season and beyond, whether playing on a PS5 with a big screen or on a PlayStation Portal. The announcement concludes by telling players to prepare for October 26.
